This week you were also assigned your tribes. Tribes were formed based on student feedback from the formation activity.

When your tribe first came together how did you address disagreements?

What can you do throughout the remainder of the semester to improve the dynamic of your tribe?

How do you think these ideas will help you in the creation of your tribes? How will these ideas challenge you to think differently about yourself as a member of the tribe?

- Think about yourself, what is your purpose? What do you do every day and what would you want to change? Is it worth changing?

Find an example of this process and talk about it.

- Change status quo : WHO are you upsetting? WHO are you connecting? WHO are you leading?

1. Go to Start > All Programs > Media Conversion Programs

2. Open WinFF

3. You will need to “Add” your video from the F: Drive

4. Change the settings to the following:
Convert to: AVI
Preset: XviD Widescreen
Output Folder: F:\YourProjectFolder

5. Hit Convert > Wait for the black screen to say “Hit Any Key to Continue”, your file will then be available in the F Drive.

IMPORTANT: The computer that you and your partner choose to work on will be the computer you use every day until the animation is complete.

Before you and your partner can start animating: one person log-in and open up the headdress (or mask) file in Photoshop

Resize your image by the Image menu > Image size option and change the pixel width to 600px (do not adjust height, this will happen automatically and will preserve the proportions of your image)

SAVE your file as a PSD into the F: Drive – Create a folder for you and your partner in the F:Data drive and save this file into the F Drive – call your file YourName-IWArt4Animation.psd

Then, have the other partner log-in and complete this same process. Help each other out – this is a benefit in working with someone else!

Once your files have been prepped, you can begin in After Effects. Look at the Getting Started with After Effects document to get set up in After Effects.

To ensure that your DP is ready to share during Student Lead Conferences, your Digital Portfolio should include: (updated criteria in bold)
– intro / welcome page with a greeting (optional: school appropriate image)
– bio page with a paragraph about you (optional: include a photo)
– a ninth grade page with subpages for Multimedia, Math and Humanities
– all projects and related work for each class should be found under that class page
– the Inner Warrior project should have it’s own dedicated page and it can link to both the Multimedia and Humanities Pages
– multimedia deliverables for the Inner Warrior project can go under Multimedia (ie: head dress and Photoshop layers / reflections on first part of project)
– change the settings on your DP: you should be able to manually control your navigation rather than having Google Sites automatically organize it for you. You can do this by going under the “More” menu, selecting Site Layout and ‘edit’ under Navigation

Why the changes? It is a given that the student DP evolves from year to year as the student becomes more proficient in their design skills and develops a greater understanding for organization. In order to ‘stay ahead of the game’ – it has been decided that each year should be separated out in order to create a flow of progress. Therefore, in 10th grade you will be asked to create a new section in your DP for 10th grade classes and projects; the same for 11th and 12th grade. When interviewing for internship positions the organization of your work and the usability of your site is crucial. In order for prospective internships to see your growth as a student it is necessary that they can access older work.

- Please post your final Inner Warrior head dress to your DP along with a screen shot of your layers. Please make sure I can see your use of layer masking, curves or image overlays & use of layer style

Notice that all the elements of my head dress are separated – this way in Photoshop each element becomes its own layer. This is done by way of layer-masking. There will be a Photoshop tutorial next week explaining how to use the pen tool and paths for precise layer masking.

The beautiful thing about this project is that rather than creating your artwork digitally, you’re able to refine your hand drawn work and add to it while still maintaining the integrity of your original art.

The final layers for your art work will be due on Tuesday at the beginning of class. We will begin scanning the work on Tuesday and we will also have a Photoshop tutorial on layer blending modes, adjustment layers and layer effects.
